Life as a Teacher....Thus Far!

I am almost done with my 4th week of teaching and I am enjoying every minute of it. It's a lot of work and a lot of time has to be put into it but the rewards to teaching are worth every minute!! I have a great group of students (yes, some try me but are still alot of fun) that make me smile every day. The curriculum is a lot of fun for the kids. They love all of the extra things we do. We have already decorated Gingerbread Men, had a visit from Hero Zero, graphed our favorite flavor of Teddy Grahams, and graphed the different colors of Gummy Bears.

Each week we have a unit or theme. Our first week was Back to School, followed by a week of Gingerbread Man, and then 2 weeks of Bears/5 Senses. The kids love these units and it's a great way to have fun while learning. We have also been working on shapes, numbers 1-5, colors, and the letters Aa, Bb, Ff, Mm, Pp, and Kk.

Tomorrow we have our Teddy Bear Picnic where the kids will wear bear headbands that they make, eat honey sandwiches, and drink apple juice with their favorite teddy bear. We asked that our kids bring their teddy bear a day early so that they could spend the night at the school Look what they were doing while the kids were away.

These bears were in the writing center and one was all caught up in the tape!!

These bears were caught playing on the computers!!!

Looks like these bears were enjoying some coke, ice cream and popcorn!!

This group of bears were reading in the Reading Center. Look at the book they were reading "Bears Away From Home!" Looks like they were looking for advice or ideas.

And another one in the lego table.

This one was caught hanging on the clothesline that we display our work on!!

The year is off to a great start! Can't wait to see what the rest of the school year has for me.

Kindergarten Kopp

So this will be my first year teaching! I have been trying to teach for a few years now and was finally offered a position as a Kindergarten teacher at my old elementary school. It's like everything came together this year. I believe God was watching over me and led me to a school where I would feel comfortable and where I would be surrounded by knowledgeable and inspriring people.

I spent the last few weeks of my summer before school starts in my classroom getting my room ready. I spent many late nights and many weekends organizing, rearranging furniture, cleaning, straightening, and making my classroom my own. Who knew being a teacher was so hard before you actually start teaching?

I was blessed to get the classroom of a retiring teacher. She left me sooooooo much stuff. I am still in awe of the amount of teaching materials that I have in my classroom for my first year. Thank you Ms. Johnson. You are a blessing from above.

I hope you enjoy the pics of my classroom. It wasn't quite ready at this point but it's an idea of what it looks like. I will take more of my bulletin boards and centers throughout the year.

Once Upon A Time...

I have decided to start my fairy tale (or blog about my life) with these magical words because they are so fantastic. Every little girl dreams of having "happily ever after" but you can't have that without a "once upon a time". I've started this blog to share my life, my experiences, and this beautiful thing we call life. I hope you enjoy and I hope I can update frequently.
